The 2015 New York City Marathon, which took place this past weekend, is an annual race that courses through the five boroughs of New York City. It is the largest marathon in the world, with over 50,000 participants each year. A large race like this draws not only runners, but spectators from around the world. Seating Solutions was there once again to provide seating throughout the race course.
At the Verrazano Bridge, where the iconic race starts, we provided one unit of our safety code compliant Ultimate seating system with luxury VIP Ultimate flip up seats. To ensure spectators had a great view of the runners starting the race, we elevated our system one foot from grade. This system contained an aisle on the end that allowed for spectators to enter and exit with ease as well as a front platform with an ADA ramp for wheelchair access onto the stand. To ensure safety for all, the entire system was fully picket railed.
The last leg of the race runs through Columbus circle; that’s where most runners need the loudest cheers for encouragement and support to make it to the end. We supplied one unit of our safety code compliant Ultimate seating system with 185 of our comfortable blue Ultimate flip up seats.
For the finish line we built 5 units of our safety code compliant Ultimate elevated bench style seating system on a combination of 30” and 24” tread. Since our system is modular in design we were able customize the units and build around the existing and beautiful Central Park trees. These systems included vomitories that lead to under-stand walkways. All of the units as well as the under-stand walkways were fully enclosed with scrim for a clean finish and safety precaution.
A large race like this required a lot a sponsorship. Our rail signage panels were a great way to showcase the race sponsors. These panels fit neatly into our custom designed picket rails. Unlike messy banners, they are a great way to say “Thank You” to the sponsors!
Congratulations to all the runners who finished this year and to New York Road Runners for putting on another great marathon. We can’t wait to be a part of it again next year!
